What's checked in an MOT

• Brakes - balance, performance, condition of components
• Steering and suspension - including bushes, joints, dampers
• Lights, indicators, reflectors and electrical components
• Tyres and wheels - tread, condition, spare (if applicable)
• Seatbelts, airbags and SRS warning lights
• Bodywork and structural integrity
• Exhaust and emissions
• View through windscreen - wipers, washers, mirrors
• Number plates and VIN

Common MOT failures we see

Most fails are small things that get spotted late. Get them caught early on a pre-MOT check and they're typically a 30-minute fix instead of a hassle.

• Bulbs out (especially number plate and high-level brake light)
• Tyre tread below 1.6mm or visible damage
• Brake imbalance or worn pads/discs
• Suspension knock or worn ball joints
• Cracked windscreen in driver's view
• Excessive corrosion in prescribed area
• Emissions outside spec (often a sensor issue, not a major repair)

Pre-MOT inspection - pass first time

Book a pre-MOT and we'll go through the test items before the actual MOT. Anything that would fail or get an advisory gets flagged with a transparent quote. You decide what to fix, then we MOT it. No surprises on test day.

When your MOT is due

Cars need their first MOT three years after first registration, then every year after that. You can MOT a car up to a month early without losing time on your current certificate.
