Most DPFs don't need replacing - they need diagnosing properly, regenerating correctly and the underlying cause fixing.
A blocked DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is one of the most over-diagnosed problems in modern diesels. Most cars come to us after another garage has quoted a new DPF at £1,500-£3,000 - and most of them drive away with a working DPF, the actual cause fixed, and a bill for a fraction of that price. We're VW Group, BMW, Mercedes and JLR DPF specialists with the equipment to do this properly.
Signs your DPF needs attention
- Engine management light or DPF warning light on the dash
- Reduced power / limp mode (especially on motorway)
- Smoke from the exhaust on heavy acceleration
- Fuel economy noticeably dropping
- Smell of unburnt fuel or burning from underneath
- Car refuses to start hot, or runs rough on cold start
Cleaning vs replacement
A genuine OEM DPF costs £1,500-£3,000+ before labour. A proper professional clean costs a fraction of that, and on 80%+ of cars it returns the filter to better than 'good as new'. We only recommend replacement when the substrate is genuinely damaged - and we'll show you why.
